In recent years, a unique sound has started echoing through parks, gyms, and recreation centers across the country—the sharp pop of a pickleball hitting a paddle. What was once a little-known backyard game has grown into one of the fastest-growing sports in America and is spreading rapidly all over the world. And with its popularity has come a surge in demand for one essential feature: pickleball courts.

What Is a Pickleball Court?

At first glance, a pickleball court might look like a smaller tennis court, but it has its own dimensions and design. A standard court measures 20 feet (6,10 m) wide by 44 feet (13,44 m) long, the same size for both singles and doubles play. The court is divided into three main sections: two service areas and a 7-foot non-volley zone—commonly known as the “kitchen”—on each side of the net.
Courts can be indoor or outdoor, and many are multi-use, with painted lines allowing them to double as badminton or tennis courts when needed.

Why the Boom in Pickleball Courts?

There are several reasons behind the explosion of new pickleball courts:

  • Accessibility: The sport is easy to learn, even for beginners and those with limited mobility.
  • Community Appeal: Pickleball is highly social, making it ideal for community centers and retirement communities.
  • Affordability: Building a pickleball court is relatively inexpensive, especially compared to full-sized tennis or basketball courts.
  • Space Efficiency: You can fit four pickleball courts in the space of one tennis court, maximizing facility use.

As a result, cities and private clubs alike are converting underused tennis courts or building new spaces just for pickleball.

Obviously, our Pulastic sports floors are a perfect match for pickleball!

The players benefit from the resilient Pulastic courts with increased player comfort and injury prevention. The surface provides excellent traction and prevents slipperiness. And the smooth and seamless surface is highly consistent hence providing excellent ball response.

Needless to point out that the seamless, non-porous surface is easy to clean and maintain. The Pulastic sports floors are designed to last the life time of a facility and with their easy repairability or resurfaceability they require only a fraction of the initial investment during their life span.

Looking Ahead

As pickleball continues to grow, expect to see even more innovation—rooftop courts in urban centers, pro-style arenas, and smart court technology for training and analysis. The game’s rapid ascent shows no signs of slowing down, and the humble pickleball court has become a key feature of modern recreation.
